Inpatient Nursing Career Ladder

Physical Therapy

Recognizing that all nurses do not aspire to management positions, HealthSouth offers a career ladder to support nurses' advancement efforts. Steps in the career ladder are achieved through such things as participation in continuing education, specialty certifications such as CRRN and IV, and participation in facility activities such as quality improvement and community events. Participation in the career ladder provides recognition from your peers and rewards you through annual monetary bonuses.

The Inpatient Nursing Career Ladder program was designed for HealthSouth's Inpatient Division through a joint effort between the Human Resources department and the National Nursing Advisory Board.

Program Goals
  • Clearly define and communicate clinical opportunities
  • Improve recruitment, selection and retention of nurses
  • Develop effective performance appraisal and career development processes
  • Develop a focused training agenda
  • Increase profitability through enhanced clinical and management effectiveness
  • Promote professional services, research and training
Eligibility Requirements

Full- and part-time nurses employed with HealthSouth who have achieved an overall score of three or greater on the latest performance evaluation are eligible to participate in the Inpatient Nursing Career Ladder program.

Each ladder position has specific requirements – including years of clinical experience, credentials, continuing education participation and professional expertise – and is bonus eligible.

CRRN Certification Plan
Purpose

Rehabilitation nursing is a specialty that acknowledges that individuals with functional disabilities have intrinsic worth that transcends their disabilities. As rehabilitation nurses, our goal is to assist individuals in the restoration and maintenance of maximal physical, psychosocial and spiritual health. We work to prevent complication of physical disability, restore optimal function and help patients and their families return to a quality life. As rehabilitation nurses, we support interventions that reduce the stigma of disability and help individuals re-establish and maintain control over all aspects of their lives.

To foster support in the practice of rehabilitation nursing and to act as a recruitment and retention tool, HealthSouth supports continued certification in rehabilitation nursing. The CRRN is a nationally recognized certification for which an RN is eligible to apply following two years of rehabilitation experience and successful completion of the certification examination. HealthSouth provides this CRRN incentive plan in addition to the incentives outlined in the Inpatient Nursing Career Ladder form.

Incentive Plans

HealthSouth offers the following assistance and incentive plans:

Option 1: Reimbursement of the CRRN exam fee upon passing, and renewal fees.

Option 2: Payment of a bonus incentive, upon passing the CRRN exam:

  • Full-time employees receive a one-time $1,000 bonus and reimbursement of the CRRN exam fee with a 12-month retention commitment.
  • Part-time employees receive a one-time $500 bonus and reimbursement of the CRRN exam fee with a six-month retention commitment.
