Growth and Development for Rehabilitation Nurses at HealthSouth

The rehabilitation nurse assists the patient in establishing realistic goals, coordinates team efforts to move the individual toward independence, and addresses a patient's educational, physical, spiritual and psychosocial needs.  In order to ensure the best possible care for our patients, it is our mission to make sure that our nurses receive opportunities to continue their growth and development.

Free continuing education courses

HealthSouth offers a full complement of clinical education programs including in-person courses and live webinars to assist our clinicians in obtaining continuing education credits needed for re-licensure.  The best part is these courses are FREE to our employees.  There are several discipline-specific courses on topics recommended by the staff.  In addition, HealthSouth’s web-based education and online instruction modules provide numerous options for increasing your knowledge and competency.

Tuition reimbursement

Aside from continuing education units, free to you as an employee, we also offer reimbursement opportunities for clinical-related courses. Reimbursement of tuition and mandatory fees is offered for full-time clinical employees participating in graduate and undergraduate level courses. The courses must specifically impact the employee's primary job function and be offered through a degree program with an accredited educational institution. Reimbursement of fees associated with specialty certification seminars or other related programs are also offered.

Clinical career ladder

HealthSouth offers a career ladder to support nurses' advancement efforts. Steps in the career ladder are achieved through such things as participation in continuing education, specialty certifications such as CRRN and IV, and participation in hospital activities such as quality improvement and community events. Participation in the career ladder provides recognition from your peers and rewards you through annual monetary bonuses. For information about the program goals and the eligibility requirements, contact the Human Resources Directors at your local hospital.

CRRN® certification plan

To foster support in the practice of rehabilitation nursing, HealthSouth supports continued certification in rehabilitation nursing. The CRRN® is a nationally recognized certification for which an RN is eligible to apply following two years of rehabilitation experience and successful completion of the certification examination. To learn more about the incentive plan, contact the Human Resources Director at your local hospital.
